"If the thought of the new 500-hp Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang hedging in on the 505-hp Corvette Z06's territory raises your blood pressure, don't despair: Corvette chief engineer Tom Wallace has a 650-hp trick up his sleeve. A new super Corvette will build on the Z06's 7.0L LS7 V-8 that was developed in sync with the Corvette C6.R Le Mans racer. For this limited-production Vette, which might be called the Z07, Chevy will increase the LS7's displacement and bolt on a supercharger to bump output by 145hp. The Z07 will be further differentiated from the Z06 by use of more carbon-fiber body panels and a huge hood vent aimed at killing front-end lift. In true Corvette style, Chevy will undercut competitors by pricing the Z07 at about $100,000."

    when: 2008

"This Corvette has been known within GM as the Blue Devil, after the mascot of GM CEO Rick Wagoner's alma mater, Duke, and also as the Sting Ray, but we think they'll go with Z07, or maybe Z06.R."

anything to knock Ford off top spot, that's GM's motto. that is some very steep performance per $.

From what I have read, making the LS7 any bigger by stroke or bore is pretty much impossible. If you increase the bore you are probably going to weaken the block due to the cylinder spacing, if you give it a bigger stroke you will have to push the piston wrists up even further, which can be disastrous on an NA car let alone a SC car.

I have read that a SC 6.2L is much more likely.

That hood is nasty... and so are the fender vents... and the wheels...

Awesome performance for the money though.

Assuming you had the additional $57,000.

The GT500 and the Z07 (or whatever they're going to call it) aren't even in the same class. The only thing that they have in common is that they're both American.

That's like saying, "I'd rather have a Bugatti Veyron." Well no shit you would, it's a better car for more money.

I'm surprised the GT500 was mentioned.

    I agree...... I'd take a regular C6 with the z51 package over a GT500 though :)

Yes if it is to be produced, it will be one hell of a car. The z06 and GT500 should even be in the same category. Altho with minor bolt on the GT will see 630+hp all day. I would still love to see this car made just to show that we americans can build amazing and fast "exotic" style cars.

I think that the current Z06 and Viper prove that.

Current z06 yes, but i think a viper handles like shit. the blue devil "Stingray" will be more along the lines of koenigsegg, and enzo levels

They aren't in the same class. The only comparisons are:

    - RWD
    - V8
    - Domestic
    - 500hp+

They are priced differently (sticker price anyway) and the target market is completely different.

Why is everyone talking about that 4000lbs pig in this thread.

Blue Devil pricing is aimed at 100,000

I'm so glad to know someone else sees this :werd: The Z06 costs 30 grand more, it had better be a better car. Albeit the GT500 is comparable to the base 400hp corvette, cost-wise.

The same arguments against the Mustang GT500 in this thread could be translated from the Z07 to the Ford GT. The GT costs a lot more money, but it's going to be the faster car. And it's an American RWD V8 car. In fact, it's more of a comparison since it's already supercharged!

And do you guys really, and I mean REALLY HONESTLY think that the Corvette is going to compete with an Enzo Ferrari or a McLaren F1? Do you?

What? The GT is barely a nose ahead of the Z06 in any type of comparison. More power is what it needs to dethrone it. And this car has it.

Why wouldnt a Corvette be able to compete with an Enzo? Because of the name?

It has nothing to do with the name.

It has to do with the technology involved in building a car on the level of an Enzo or a Bugatti or McLaren. Those companies put a lot of effort into Formula 1 (the highest level of technology creating speed) in order to develop automobiles that are at the pinnacle of current technology. Ferrari manufacturing has been closely connected to their Formula One R&D department for over 20 years, and they have some of the world's finest automobiles to prove it. The same is true for McLaren, who's F1 not only borrowed much of its design from their Formula One department, but so much so that they simply NAMED IT SUCH.

Does General Motors have a Formula One R&D department?
