are there any disadvantages to using blogger for a blog vs owning your own domain and hosting?
You get more control over everything if you have your own set up.
but i just want to use blogger to see if theres an actual market and ill actually get readers, just need to find a way to promote this bitch and get ppl to visit
i personally never liked blogger
I have 1 Blogger site, and about 40 WordPress sites that I host myself. Ironically, the blogger site gets more traffic than any of the rest. Not sure why, but it kinds of sucks that it worked out like that, as there's no way I'm going to risk losing that traffic moving the site over to it's own domain and change platforms.
You could always register a domain, point it to your blogger site, and at least then if you don't like Blogger, you always have the option of moving the site elsewhere with minimal damage.
GREAT idea, i think that would be his best bet
Will Blogger let you export the database? If not, you would lose everything if you decide to host it elsewhere
How does Movable Type compare?
If you do any email marketing (and link to posts), you're more likely to get caught in spam filters as blogger URL's were recently listed on SpamHaus. Of course you could do what others said and move it onto your own domain.
