The americans seem to find it hard to believe that anyone would call the Pontiac GTO a brilliant looking car? Well, thats basically all anyone had to say about it when it first came out here in 2002 as the CV8 Monaro above. And i still think it is a superb looking car.

But apparently it was too loud, too much intake noise, too much exhaust noise, and too stiff for most people. hmmm.

    Interesting review none the less.

I think the original is a lovely car and it'd be nice to see someone turn a 2004 GTO into one.

yeah its time to sell the sv6.

I just wish original CV8's didn't hold their value all that well.

i saw one at a dealer the other week for 25k, it was red, which is the colour i'd want. But it had over 100,000km on it, and it was a 2002.

That seems alot for such an old car really. I have the feeling they are going to start going up in price soon though

I know I'm in the minority on this one but..........I really like the pontiac bumper/grilles better (after a few minor mods are done--mainly black grills instead of gray)

    :dunno:

My vette gets 25-30mpg depending on how you drive it, these cars should get decent mileage too.

your GTO is REALLY nice, i still prefer the monaro front end, but there is nothing wrong with that car.

What made the GTO's look bad is the ugly grille that was fitted stock, and the fact they gave them poverty pack wheels for whatever reason. You have fitted the optional 18's, which every GTO should have come standard with. The 17's really took away from its design.

yep, its a much heavier car so it won't be that good.

Insurance for me is really expensive because i wrote my last car off (in a traffic light incident, not through being a hoon), so right now most companies won't even insure me for the v8 monaro. After a couple of years though the price goes down drastically. It should be ok than.

It's not going to go down. Even when the US Dollar recovers its value (assuming oil is still paid for in dollars at that point), the Chinese and Indian economies have grown so quickly that there's a ridiculous resource vacuum in those places and they're sucking in all the oil they can scratch up. Same with steel, copper, hell, even topsoil. Two billion more people have laid claim to their share of the world's fossil fuel supply, and that supply isn't getting any bigger.

The US dollar does not effect Australian fuel prices.

    And yeah i know :o

I'm feeling it enough right now. I need to buy a little car as a daily.

Yes, yes it does. The official currency of OPEC is the US Dollar. When the dollar goes down, the number of dollars needed to buy a barrel of oil goes up. That has a ripple effect through all the other exchange rates in the world.

Crazy as it sounds, everyone who wants to buy oil from OPEC has to buy US Dollars first.

But for once the australian dollar is worth 97 US cents

just a few years back it would have been in the 60's. So it evens out
