One of the guys from my gym is a highschool teacher, and is starting a BJJ club at his highschool! He got it cleared through the school and made sure their club would be insured, etc and have space in the wrestling room. They are going to meet on Monday and Thursday afternoons. He even called (I think) HCK and got a bulk deal on about 25 gis for $35 each, for the students.

How cool is that? I would have killed at this point to be able to have trained BJJ since I was in HS. He invited us to come out and help "teach" and roll with the kids. I definitely think it'll be fun. I'm still blown away that he organized it, it's a very cool idea. He said he's had tons of kids come up to him in the halls and a few parents calling each night for information.

Lucky kids. I wish sometimes I started BJJ a little bit earlier in my life. I figure it can get ugly since teens have so much adrenaline. Watch some guy crank a kimura during the first few weeks :eek3:

I wish I would have started when I was 15 or 16 instead of 23.

Sometimes I wish I grew up a couple generations later where BJJ would be more common and I would probably grow up doing it.

    Cousino HS.

After I get my schedule set I need to come visit you guys. I'm only grappling for a while (possibly 6 days a week). I also heard Tyrone's school shut down and he moved to another school. Any info on where he ended up?

Thats awesome, I wish I had that opportunity.

I'm not sure what quality your bulk purchased Gi's are, but if they are only a karate style gi (which sounds right as they cost $50 individually), then they wont last long rolling.

But great work by that teacher! The kids will love it.

They are HCK gi's, probably single weave. Which I think are normally $55 or so.

I hope my kids show an interest in wrestling or something fairly early on. I really wish that I had started way earlier in life.

we get single weave gis at college for $40 each. $35 is cheap, but nothing insane.

that's awesome, i love teaching new people. so much fun. good luck with them, teach them how to be great partners first, imo. overzealous highschoolers with pride on their shoulders need to learn the importance of safety for your partner first.
