I know a few of you have had shoulder issues in the past, so I'm running this past you guys..

I plan on going to my sports doc after the first of the year (changing insurance plans, and it'll be cheaper out of pocket...$20 for the visit vs $200). This Dr participates in weight lifting and bodybuilding personally, so I trust him..

Anyway whenever I do side or front delt raises, I get a bizarre pain in back of my shoulder and sometimes feels like its closer to my lat. This is on my left side. It's not there when I'm light, but when I start going heavier, it's definitely there is and is starting to effect my lifts. It's slight, so I can live with it, but I still need to get it checked out.

    Any insight?

I'll have to check tomorrow when I go back in..

Are you asking when my arm is 90D from my torso (i.e. straight out)?

Little warm up.. Much of my warm up is brief cardio before jumping into the weights. I may do some jumping jacks or something lame like that. Not sure if that really warms up the delts or not..

what do you mean by bizarre? sharp, dull, achey, tight, does the pain radiate anywhere else? do you remember what you did the first time it started hurting? if it hurts like being pulled thight through out the entire movement then maybe it's thightness/tigger point in of one of the rotator cuff muscles. If it only hurts after 90 degress then maybe something to do with scapulothroacic joint where the scapula isn't moving properly along the rib cage...could be a number of things.

Well, thats what makes it bizarre. I can't seem to source the pain. As far as I remember, I've never experienced a time in which I injured it. I would think I would remember that happening, but nothing.

The pain could be catagorized as sharp.

i'd put money on it that it's a trigger point somewhere else referring pain to that area...from what you said my best guess is it maybe a lat trigger point..look at the pic and see if you have pain in the red areas...feel around where the black X is and if you feel a knot push on it...sometimes just pushing on it will send the pain to the areas you've been feeling it...if that's it just keep pushing on the knot...work it out.

the proximal X is probably the culprit

Heh. Bizarre is a great term, isn't it? I've experienced many different types of pains, but this is just bizarre.

The top picture seems to be similiar to the spot.. however there is nothing really there to work out. I only feel it when lifting (side and front raises only, really)..

Just a follow up. I've figured out that its more of a pain in my lats then my shoulder.. Not sure why I misunderstood the location. Still there. Need to make an appt. Which Dr. should I see? Ortho or general physician?
