So today I was thinking that maybe I haven't been completely honest with myself over truly liking my IUD. I am wondering if it is causing me some problems (infection wise).. and if I should think about changing birth control.
I DO have an appointment on Tuesday with my gynecologist to discuss this, but would like to discuss it with my hubby before I go (since he can't be with me).
What other options do I really have?
Don't like the idea of Norplant (don't know if it's still around anymore!)
Can't use the BC pill due to the high amount of antibiotics I take because of UTIs
Condoms are absolutely out of the question
Would really like to think about the patch, but am wondering if the antibiotics will have the same effect on that as they do the pill.

So what I'd like is to hear from some other women on their methods of birth control, pros and cons etc.

I personally don't like birth control in general. I don't know if it is just the kinds that I have taken. But I gain maaaad weight, have horrible periods, and have ridiculous mood swings. Plus I am not a big fan of medicine to begin with. I usually just use the pull out method. Pulling out wayyyy before, and finishing with head. I know there is a risk with pre-cum. But I am stable enough if I were to get pregnant, so ::shrug::

That's what my hubby said today too (he'll just pull out). HELL no! WE're NOT able to support another child right now, and to be completely honest I don't want one right now.
the IUD has been great for me- I very rarely have to think about it and it is very effective. I'd like something like that again...

And I changed my appt. to tomorow afternoon instead.

:( Looking over my options.. it doesn't really look like i HAVE too many.

im thinking you will run into the same probs with the patch that you do during the pill. dont know if that goes for depo too.

what about trying to go off the antibiotics and using other methods to control the uti?

tried other things. been to specialists, urologists, had tests done, they can't find anything wrong with me. so that's not really an option.

I was on the pill and it worked fine with me.
I have a friend on the implant who swears by it (she also likes not having a period). I don't know if I could handle that though.
My mum was using a diaphram when I was born :big grin: (apprently)

Other ideas I am not sure about.

    Why can't your hubby go?

" Possible side effects include weight gain, headaches, or mood changes." This scares me about the implant, or I'd be all for it.

My friend put on some weight, but she also puts it down to being in a great relationship where she didn't have to worry so much about her appearance and her partner loves her to death no matter what

Wow, that must suck. He can't get permission to start later? This really should involve both of you (even though it is your choice in the end)

which is why we need to discuss it before hand and have some ideas in mind.
no, it's not possible for him to change his schedule- he's still pretty new at his job.

I DO feel the same way as your friend, feeling secure in my relationship and knowing my husband will love me no matter what, but honestly I just don't want to gain anymore weight. I still haven't lost my pregnancy weight, and I have been trying to eat healthy/excercise etc just to be healthy.

Uhh, sad thing is it is a true story. I was in the middle of a massive hormal low and I sent him a text saying something like "what, did you just LEAVE?" then it felt like I waited hours, and I sent another one saying "guess so, have a nice weekend then!" Haha then I looked at the times on it and it was literally less that two minutes... oops me! He called and was like, WTF? Hahaha, he is good about it though. Very understanding.

    Argh! Quit Hijacking My Thread!!!:mamoru:

And that's definetly a reason I don't want hormonal birth control.

Unfortunately, I don't have much of a choice right now besides condoms. They even moved my appt up a few hours today (I suppose it didn't help breaking down and crying on the phone with the nurse due to being in pain). My IUD was NOT in the right place (hadn't perforated yet thank God!), but they removed it in the ultrasound room (wouldn't move me to an exam room or let me move around!). Kind of scary actualy. So now I am birth control-less until at least Tuesday. :wtc:
Feeling very relieved right now honestly.

These are the only things I can think of:

Combination pill/patch (same stuff, just different forms of delivery)
Progestin only pill (I found a lot less/nill negative side effects compared to combination pills)
Condoms (No worry about side effects with these lol)
Implant (Biggest downfall is you can't just stop if you aren't fond of the side effects)
Depo (Downfall being that if you don't like it will still be in your system for 3mo)
Cervical cap (heard these aren't very good, my aunt had all 3 of her kids while using these)

Have you asked if the UTI antibiotics would affect any of the contraceptives? ...just to make sure. Maybe they don't affect it, or if they do then maybe they only affect the combination pills; just a thought as I don't really know.
