My buddy's father just got an M1A Socom, and I wanted to get him a bipod for christmas. I have no idea what I need to put one on, and was looking for some recommmendations. I have a Harris bipod, and I really like those, especially since they go for pretty cheap, but I'm open to any suggestions (specific models if possible, as well as accessories needed to mount them.)

Harris is OK, but the M1A has bipod accuracy issues. Maybe get him a sight instead like a red dot?

Just get him a harris in whatever length legs you think he'd need. Depends wether or not he'll use it for bench shooting or whatever. I think the SOCOM has something like two or three sling mounts on the fore-end, so you should be okay with a standard harris.

So no adapter/stud is needed?

What length do you suggest for bench shooting?

That's my harris. I'm not sure what length it is. I think it's like 2-3" and then extendable to 4-5". Works perfect for bench shooting. My only complaint is that one of the springs inside the legs broke so it doesn't pop out like it should. But other than that, I love it.
