PC Gamer and PSM3 rate 2K's massive sequel

The first BioShock 2 reviews have arrived, via both PSM3 and PC Gamer magazines... and it's good news.

PSM3 awarded the follow-up 93%, saying it "Tops the original in terms of storytelling and combat."

PC Gamer meanwhile went with a lower but still impressive score of 90%, concluding that "the mechanics that made the original BioShock such fun return, better than before," and "it's still better written than pretty much anything else out there."

I hope there's a PC demo so I can see how it runs. :x:

I know there won't be one though so I'll probably just download it. :wtc:

It's going to be interesting to see if this game does well in sales. There's barely any hype for it. I'm waiting for the epic commercials like from the first one.

In on day one  I loved 1, I was disappointed that Ken Levine wouldn't be involved with it but good reviews are a good sign :hs:

To me, the first one was overhyped a bit. I enjoyed the game, but it wasn't as amazing as everyone was saying. The character models all looked very odd to me, like they were molded out of plastic.

The art direction was cool though, and I definitely look forward to seeing more new areas in Rapture.

From what I have read about this one Im really just not feeling it that much. Seems like its mostly the same plasmids and gameplay as the first and the new stuff like play as big daddy doesnt sound that interesting. Im sure it will still be solid though.

    .

I couldn't even bring myself to beat it, kinda got boring once the cool factor of the plasmids wore off.

Though I'm looking forward to seeing the 2nd one, it is a cool atmosphere/style

2K probably made other plasmids actually as good as Electrobolt now if they did any balance testing this time. First one was seriously Electrobolt into whichever way you want to kill, repeat over and over again.

I hardly ever used plasmids in the first game, unless I was fighting a tough boss. Just too lazy, I guess.

The story sold me on the first one. It was the first current gen FPS I even played, let alone beat. The depth to the environment and story in the game was pretty amazing.

The only qualm I have on the new one is there's no backtracking which might make any collection achievement/trophy a bitch to do.

The first 2/3ds of bioshock were one of the best games I'd ever played.

I wasn't really hopeful for the second game due to it not being handled by the same studio but apparently the 2nd one will be pretty good.

I hope the 2nd has better replay value since the first one had virutally none. I remember before the first came out everyone was saying how the game would have endless replay value. I finished it once and havent touched it since, mine has a nice thick layer of dust on the top.

I never even finished the first one, but it wasn't because I got bored with it. There was some bug in the PC version where a necessary item wouldn't appear. I reinstalled and played through it about 3 times

i only played the demo of the first one. The story was awesome, but i hated the gameplay. Then again it was only the demo. Maybe i'll give it another shot

    .

Depth, story, concept in Bioshock were all steps ahead of almost every other game I've played for the 360; and it may be the only game besides COD4 that I got all the achievements for. Prior to hearing about the no backtracking, my only concern for the new one is that developers creating the multiplayer mode would have detracted from the storyline. Just a few more weeks and we'll see for ourselves :x:.
