I was driving to work today, and everything was wonderful.
Then the bike started to loss power and I gave it some gas and
nothing. Still losing power. So I push it to work. I look at the posistive wire and its totally rusted through, with some white powder on it. So it just snapped off. So I'm thinking not a problem. I cut the wire off, and splice it, screw that clean piece to the battery termanal. I go to start the bike and it starts up, but it idles at like 200-500 and then dies.

    What am I doing wrong.
P.S. I need a ride home from work anyone in the austin area.

    Thanks for your help/info

got a multimeter at work? just out of curiosity check the voltage on the battery, or get a jump from a car, don't start the car, just hook up the cables and start the bike, see if it runs OK hooked up

    some history on the bike

Sorry some history would help right:
97 ninja 500R Nothing has been done to the bike as upgrades, ignition system is stock, I changed out the battery less then 8 months ago. I just haven't been able to drive the bike in about a week. Could this effect it? But then again it drove to work with no problem.

Even if the battery is only 8 months old

I know there isn't a charging system on are bikes. But still, the battary should be okay. But I'll give it a try. is there anything else I should know.

By the way,, Nice bike, Are you counting the days tell you get her or what?

sounds more liek a fuel problem to me
do you ahve fuel filter check the carb see if there is a pice of junk in teh main jet (loss of power) or it sounds more liek teh fuel line it self since after it sets more fuel will go inot the bowl but it quickly runs out of it at idle and wont run agin

it could be.. hell it could be a lot of things, it just sounded to me like his charging system failed and the battery drained, though I guess he had enough juice to crank it and it ran for a little while.
it could be a bit of dirt in the filter or a jet like ya say, or gummed up carbs. Maybe even fouled plugs, though they've always gotten me where I was going, then the bike just wouldn't start hehe

sitting for a week shouldn't affect anything.
