the machines really didnt need humans as a power source, why u ask?? well if u saw "revolutions" u realize that even though humans did cover the sky, they only did so by putting a layer that sits at about 200m off the surface of the earth, after that, solar energy is easily attainable, therefore the machines could have just "invented" specials ships or towers that go beyond the covering layer to get energy, saving themselves three movies and a whole lot of killing :squint:

building some solar towers is more efficient, and less of a pain in the ass than maintaining billions of humans......not to mention they get rid of the human threat

it wasn't really a means of a power source, as the Archetict said in Reloaded- they were prepared to survive under any means. It was a way to control the humans without killing them, because they still recognize them as their creators, and actually don't want to fight them.

Watching the Animatrix will help ya there.

    machines use geo thermal energy

they just have a built in bond with the creators that prevents them from killing them all

Solar energy isnt the ONLY stuff we got on this giant hunk of rock either.

I find it odd how someone can be watching some completely unbelieveable movie, and at the end going "Did you see the fight scene? WTF? He never reloaded his gun! Thats SOOO fake!!"

first the matrix has been around for centuries. it would have taken a long time for all that stuff in the atmosphere to settle to where it is at the time all of that was taking place. second, and most important, its a movie. I think the humans being made into a battery and forced to live in the matrix made for a better story than the machines building special ships that could get power from above the clouds.

it's an electromagnetic cloud. that's why the hovercraft loses power and all those sentinals fall off.

Biggest scam about this thread: Failure to realize that both the sentinels and the hovercraft couldn't survive the trip through the blackened sky. Both were damaged. Of course, with their technology, I'm sure the machines could figure out a way to make a power conductor that was several miles long and wouldn't short out in the clouds. Of course they could!

Well the whole plot of the matrix is stupid - we and almost all life on earth would also die out without the sun.
