big squat PR today, BUT

    i need a little advice. i can feel that i am leaning forward too much, especially towards the bottom on the motion as i try to get lower. I find that i have trouble getting really low regardless of weight, i believe due to the fact that i am extremely inflexible, especially in my quads and hamstrings. So this is definitely something i need to work on, but what else should i be looking at to correct this issue?

    I'd say flexibility first and foremost - that is going to be the biggest limiting factor for you


    what did you squat?

    i'm pretty sure that's it too. Just now i was squatting in my room with a pool stick on my back, and even with no weight i can see that my body wants to come down leaning forward. Forcing myself to stay upright and sit back more is difficult and feels uncomfortable.

    oh and it was 425 x 5 today

    that's gotta be it, i'm tight as shit in that area it's actually pretty ridiculous how inflexible i am.

    Can you get a pic or something so we can see your form at the bottom?

    Are your knees going over your feet at the bottom?

    yeah i had the same prob, keeping my hips loose helped a lot. i stretch them every night.

    also, i don't know if this is your problem, but try pulling your elbows forward under the bar when you squat...too many people keep their elbows way behind them and it almost involuntarily pushes the bar forward.

    good job on the squat man

    the farther forward your knees go, the more upright your torso will be

    holy shit nice.

    I also have a problem with leaning forward when I come down. fixing my elbow position helped but I still tend to lean forward :hs:
