ok so i just installed ubuntu, and i was trying to get the nvidia drivers installed, but i realized too late (after i edited xfree conf and restarted X) that I never set up a root password
so now i have no GUI and i can't fix my config because i can't get in as root
does ubuntu have a default? i remember it saying something like "subo" in the installation but i didn't pay too much attention, i thought it would let me set my own up
    guess i should next time
is my only option to reinstall?

Ubuntu sets the root password to be the same as the user password you specify during installation. It's a little odd, but convenient for new users since they only need to remember one password and not two. It really confused me the first time I went to run something as root too, since I had no idea what the password was.
