Right my friends user account/admin is NOT WORKING at all.

He has a guest account and thats all he can use.

He's tried everthing like that "control userpasswords2" thing but the ADMIN pass does not work at all. all sorts of boot CD's of recovery passwords

He says he did not forget it but he one day when he rebooted it didn't accept the password. its been a month

I told him to reinstall windows but HE HAS SO MANY high priority files, he needs to save them first

However he's on a guest account so he can't access files on his normal account.

How can he go about accessing those files to save them on a CD???

Run a Linux live CD and copy the files. Then reformat.

if he can log in as guest and access the files, then have him copy the files to an external drive, cd, dvd, network drive, whatever. Then re-isntall windows, or attempt to recover the admin password

I think the most likely scenerio is his password file got corrupted.

    --------------------

What he REALLY needs is a second hard drive.
    Beg, borrow or steal.

Slave the hard drive with all the information on it to the new hard drive.
Install windows on the new hard drive.
Now when he is on his new windows install Windows won't look at the old hard drive as part of the OS, it will look at the old hard drive as, well as a hard drive with a bunch of files.

This is how he will backup his important files. Hell, he can back them up to the new hard drive.

When he has finished all he has to do is format the old (previously screwed up) hard drive, install windows on it and then recover the files to that drive.

The final step would be formatting the new hard drive and then giving it back to whoever he got it from.

Another slightly different solution would be to buy a USB hard drive enclosure. Put the screwed up drive in that enclosure and plug the screwed up drive into a laptop.
Save the files to the laptop.
Put the old hard drive back, format it and put a new copy of windows on it.
Then make the laptop part of the network and transfer the files to the laptop.

    ------------------

I know nothing about recovering a corrupted administration password on Windows.
You can try to Google that, but I think you will come up empty.

If it were me, I would be doing the laptop thing.
