Yes lets talk. I'm willing to read. I can add in here and there but my engine building knowledge is microscopic compared to those mentioned.

There is a foot of snow and it's 20 degrees outside so we can check the oil or pull the engine apart to verify....Does this sound like a cam going flat....rockers have suddenly become quite loose....properly tighten them, drive 20 miles, car starts running like shit, tow home, pull valve covers, rockers are once again loose but the rocker nuts haven't backed off.

Car has a hard time start, but will and idles, with a noticeably different exhaust note, any load and it goes to total shit.

Unfortunately if it is, the machine shop burned down on Wednesday so we are pretty much screwed on any cleaning or fixing of said engine :wtc:

if you adjusted them and drove and then they went loose again, sounds to me like maybe the lifters are bad :dunno:
what car/engine? this is of course if the lifters are hydraulic

Nice formula and VERY nice GTO. I want a GTO for a daily but trying to keep from buying anything right now. Also anything I buy will pull funds from the 69 camaro project.

Just watched the "after mods" video and that's a nice burnout. You can find some of my vids on youtube looking up "hugger orange SS burnout" or look for "built then blown." Built then blown is a vid of my car popping the H/C/I motor at TWS.

Yeah it's hydraulic lifters. Right after we first tightened them, the car ran like normal, boosted fine and drive how it should. 15 miles later, it was basically dead.

The engine is pretty hefty built Gen II 3.1 60° V6 with a GT3071R turbo.

LS1's esp Fbody ones done like high G-left turns. TWS is full of those. High RPM also isn't it's friend. I was spinning it 6800 beating on it like a step child. Front straight ~145mph/ 6500rpm the motor let loose. Total loss just about.

Video shows the smoke screen and the damage when we did a tear down.

the reason i say its lifters is this...if you adjusted them, and they were tight and correct, and then it runs for a few minutes and they are loose again, the cam isn't gonna wear down between the adjustments, something else must be causing it. what car is this in?

Setup was just eibach pro/kyb until even a couple weeks ago and I put Koni SAs and Strano springs. Otherwise it's stock SS sways, stock LCA/panhard/torquearm etc. I upgraded the brakes to C5 with an aggressive track pads.

Honestly for the money I was thinking about coil-overs but passed for simple koni/strano. It is far more than anyone needs. As for the tubular K, if you're going for handling make sure to get the ROAD RACE version. The others lack the reinforcement to take the loading the road course gives it. They've been known to fail. I considered that also but weight savings for the RR version over stock wasn't TOO much gains.

My car for what it has does fine. I've had no problem embarassing many people at TWS in my cheap SS. Driving time is far more important.

yea, you're probably right about the k-member. i think before i go doing much more im going to rebuild the engine. mine's got 145K on the ticker :noes:

still runs strong as hell though and puts down a little over 300HP to the wheels
