My local Big 5 has a 91/30 on sale that looks really nice from the outside but they wont take the trigger lock off so I can remove the bolt and take a look down the bore. I'd really prefer to inspect the bore, but is it something necessary? If their stock tends to be in good shape I wont worry so much. Otherwise I'll just have the guy get the manager when I go back in.

You should inspect it. I looked at one, one day that looked ok on the outside but had no rifling. I just asked and they removed the bolt and handed it to me.

    Thanks

The guy last night told me he couldnt do it. I'll go back in and hopefully talk to someone else.

the bore is the most important part, I won't even buy a new gun without being able to fully inspect it.

I was about to last night except I wasnt sure I was going to buy it or not.

I'm going to go to the Big 5 in the redneck part of the county instead after I get some clothes in the wash.

I meant just that, I inspect every gun I buy even if it is new in box from walmart, let alone if it is a 75 dollar WWI rifle.

probably a dumb suggestion but maybe you could buy one of them bore lights? but still spending money to suspect a bore wouldn't be the greatest idea.

I went to the other store and asked to inspect the bore on the display rifle. He said he didnt know how to get the bolt out. I told him and he said he couldnt take the trigger lock off. I told him to go get the manager and he said he was the manager. Said I was ready to buy one, but wasnt going to do so without checking out the bore. He reluctantly agreed to take the lock off since I couldnt do anything without the bolt. After I was done looking at it he put the bolt back in then replaced the gun in the rack (didnt bother to lock it back up ) then left to go get the other two that were in stock for me to look at.

After looking over all three of them in stock I picked the one that overall looked the best. It just sucks I cant pick it up for 11 days :(.

I remember coming back 10 days later only to learn I had to wait one more. I was pretty dissapointed.

before doing that you should always verify the chamber is empty, but personally I like to have a light source at the other end of the barrel which means having the bolt/chamber removed/open.
