I don't think it matters. Just personal preference

Lately I've been seeing people move from site.com/blog to blog.site.com and haven't been sure why. Is there any advantages over the other at all?

    personal preference i guess

i always thought that blogs.domain.com would be considered a subdomain and separate from the domain

Correct. We already have a site that's up and running and would like to add a blog to the current site.

I think majority of the time for bigger companies the blog. alias is just because it's hosted on a diff web server

    i prefer the blog.domain.com

that way you have to option to have the actual blog anywhere.. and people will only be able to see

    blog.domain.com/index.php

    opposed to domain.com/blog/index.php...

uhg.. now that i explain that... i think.. wtf does it matter.. but anyway...

i use wordpress, and its in my root dir as wordpress - so blog.mydomain.com is nicer to me then. mydomain.com/wordpress (yes i know i can change that)
