Beta Testers Wanted: Google Image Downloader App

I wrote this for fun, sometimes I just get an idea in my head and have an extreme drive to see it through to fruition. I know other programs do this, but there is something to be said for simplicity I think.

Anyway, I wrote this program yesterday, took about 2 hours but it isn't 100% yet, just looking to see if anyone wants to test it for me and report back any bugs or suggestions/opinions. It will take a search string and download the resulting images from a google image search using that string. You can specify upper and lower bounds for the resolution of the image, you can tell it exactly how many images to download, and it displays each as it goes along.

    Here is the file:
    http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/googledownload/ImageDownloader.rar?use_mirror=iweb

    A couple notes:
    - files are saved to "C:\z\[search string]\", I'm going to allow you to select the download folder later.

    - right now you can't cancel a search once you start it, use the "X" button or ctrl-alt-del.

    - Make sure you enter valid shit into the text boxes, don't write letters in a box for numbers... there is no check for valid input at the moment.

    - If it reaches the end of the google search results before it downloads the specified number of files it sits and does nothing, but is still responsive and can be closed. You'll know this happened if the cursor keeps rapidly switching between the waiting cursor and the normal cursor.

    - This is actually downloading shit, if you tell it to get 2560x1600 images don't be surprised if it takes some time between each.

    - I'm going to make display of the images as they download optional later, right now it's going to display each previous image in the window as it downloads the next.

    - Safe Search (adult content filtering) is disabled, may add it as an option later.

    - Occasionally you will get corrupt image files, just delete them and stfu :mamoru:

Hi I tried the XJ-34c program on XP SP3, and it worked well :bigthumb:
The only option I would prefer is showing the thumbnails before downloading, as in Google searches.

    Anyway, I do like it.
Please keep the thread updated or I'll just go here I suppose: sourceforge.net/projects/googledownload/files/

I guess I could add that as an optional mode of operation, the original intent was to be automated so that you can download large numbers of files (wallpapers was my interest) without being at the computer, or overnight, whatever.

Showing thumbnails and allowing you to choose what you download seems too similar to what you would do if you just went to google and did the search, I don't see why you would use this to do that over just doing it in your browser, but it certainly could be done.

Thanks for trying it though, glad you like it! One thing I will be adding is a content filter option, I left it running over night to download wallpapers and ended up with a bunch of gay porn

Got this working for deviantArt now, on a rudimentary level anyway.

Right now it will download x number of images from deviantArt sorted by popularity from all categories. I plan on adding filtering for every available category, sorting by popular OR newest, and of course the ability to search for specific terms, but it will take some time, if not only because there about 100 different categories and sub-categories to take into account.

I also added adult content filtering and an image result "skip ahead" feature that lets you start your search at a specific index in the search results. This is useful if you download 100 images, then decide you want more, you can type 100 into the image offset and it will start where you left off last time instead of getting the same ones you already downloaded.

    Oh that's good :bigthumb:
And why I like it is because you don't need the browser to run Google search strings.

I'd say change the default background color to even a common picture (low kilobytes)
Otherwise (other than cosmetically) its good.
