hi guys i was wondering what is the most simplest way to use the computer for video recording for surveillence? I need to record maybe up to thirty hours? my guess is to get a cheap webcam or cheap dv cam hook it up, use a program that will record in small resolution for up to 30 hrs? am i on the right track? thanks guys:)

Some of the software that comes with webcams has the ability to turn on when the image changes. That's what I'd do.

Depends how much you want to spend and how good the video needs to be.

If you're setting this up for some actual security application, you should spend some money, get some real security cameras that'll come with software to record a bunch of feeds at once for an amount of time you specify before looping over. We have this type of setup at work and it works well (although we need higher-resolution cameras outside, the current one sucks).

If it's just to watch your living room or make voyeur porn, then yeah, get a camera and I'm sure there's some free software out there that'll record non-stop or record when the image changes.

i believe the multiple feed version will also require a multiplexer for sorting the individual feeds from the source recording
