I've been hired to shoot some canvas for a local artist.

They range from like 8x10 to 20x30 inches.

What is the best way to shoot these? Obviously from far enough away to eliminate distortion, but it also needs to be well lit... Should I just bounce a flash or use an umbrella? Any suggestions would be helpful!

this was a quick one of KDubbs for me to show other people... I don't know if this is what you're trying to do.

do you want to reproduce it, or show how awesome it is?

If you're trying to reproduce it, put one light on each side at a 45 degree angle, diffused.

If you're trying to show it, one light, either from one side, or above (like a bounce, i guess), to show off the color and tone, but also hard enough to show the texture of the canvas by creating shadows.

2 lights 45 degrees off, like jared said. Bounce would be ok, but two lights would be much better.
