do not have access to put a nut on the other end. 1/2"x4" lag screws seem ok?

yeah lag screws work. Bolt to the floor and to the wall. I used 5/8th lags. Was the bigges ones I could use with the pre drilled holes in my safe.

aint this a bitch. got it in the location i wanted, go to test it out and the lock is broke. put the dial on a certain number and the safe opens right up

i'm fuming right now b/c i've had so many problems out of this safe and lowes

    1. delivery time to the store was off a week so my arrangement for transportation fell through. they eventually agreed to deliver it
    2. got it here, it has already been unboxed and looked like a display model by the nicks on the bottom and the dust on it. called the store and they gave me $50 back
    3. get it in the door, opened it up and 2 shelves were broken
    4. tested it out tonight and the lock is broken. put the dial on a certain number and the door opens right up. no matter how many times you turn the dial.

i'm about to call lowes and tell them to come get it and give me a refund b/c there is no way i'm arranging to take it up there

that sux, i got my safe from lowes and it was fine. sux when you buy something and they ship you a piece of shit, especially when it's a big , heavy, difficult to do anything with expensive piece of shit.

    yikes, i'd be pissed too

what pisses me off is that this is clearly a display model they pulled from another store. it had dust on the top of it when it was delivered, dust on the top of the door when it's open and the lock is fucked up.

i called and spoke with the manager again and told her this one is broken. she said she would arrange a pick up. it'll make the third time they've been out here and all b/c she pulled a broken display model from another store and tried to pass it off as new.

i'm torn between getting a full refund or wait the undetermined timeframe to get a new one.

i'm not doing something wrong am i? the one number you can put it on is the last number in the combination. i can turn it 100 times to the left and 100 times to the right and stop on that number and it opens

I got one from Cabelas that had scratches on the door. They knocked off enough money for me to buy a new rifle to put in it. I put stickers over the scratches.

Make sure you hit the studs/floor joices with the lag bolt. No point in using a 4" lag bolt on a piece of 3/4" flooring.

just an update on the situation

they came and picked up the broken safe on thursday. i showed the people picking it up how the lock is broken.

yesterday i called customer service to tell them what is going on and see what could be done to expedite a safe being sent to the store for me. the phone call is basically pointless and it never goes above the store management level. basically customer service took the story and sent an email to the "upper level management of the store". i could have called the store and talked to the store manager. i wanted someone at corporate to know i was given a broken display model that was trying to be passed off as new.

a "manager" called me back after i got off the phone with customer service and said that they are getting some in next week and will deliver one on the 28th. we'll see how all of this pans out with the "new" one that is brought to me. i was told that when they get the safes in the store they are not even boxed up, but bolted to a half pallet from the bottom and wrapped in film.

after all of this is said and done, i will NEVER shop at lowes again.

it's not unusual for large items going to retail stores to not be boxed but to be wrapped and on pallets.
i'm not saying that delivering a broken piece of shit is ok, i'd be super pissed as well if it happened to me. but the safe i got from lowes came in perfect shape and there have been no issues. sounds like you are dealing with a shit store that doesn't give a damn and tried to fuck you.
pretty much any retail store isn't gonna say oh we fucked up and tried to screw you let me do something special to make you happy, it's just not the world we live in, i think you deserve something extra for your trouble but i doubt many stores would do so these days.

pain in the ass but hopefully your all set now. too bad the fools don't inspect shit before delivering it, would have saved a bunch of trouble and time for you and them.
