What's the best way to get 100 situps in 2 minutes? Right now I experience just complete and total muscle failure at around ~55 :hs:.

I need a good ab routine that will get me to 100 situps in 2 minutes. I don't care about a well developed 6 pack or any of that stuff, I just care about performance.

Should I do like 5 sets of 20 situps a night or something?

Start doing weighed sit ups, unweighted will become easier faster

Could you give me just a quick example of what pyramid sets for situps would be like? Such as...

    set 1: 10 situps
    set 2: 15 situps
    set 3: 20 situps
    set 4: 25 situps

Is that how a pyramid routine for situps would be or am I totally missing the point? I've never done pyramid sets before in any sort of exercise so i'm lost, lol.

What would be more beneficial, weighted situps or inclined situps?

Do them as fast as you can. When you slow down, stop and take a break.

You are doing this for the marines?

first, make sure you are doing them so that they will count. Next alternate weighted work (full range and power) with timed flex holds. Once a week or so do a full on timed test and try to do it as close to the standard you will be held to. I also recommend banded incline sit ups, janda situps and banded knee raises done for speed.

Every exercise you do from here on out should be timed and not for reps. Make your training as specific as possible.

    Correct.

Couple of questions if you don't mind....

Flex holds are when i'm at the top of the movement and I flex/squeeze as hard as I can for a few seconds before going back down, right?

Janda situps are basically the same thing as regular situps, except I only go half way up to the point just before where the hip flexors engage?

And how exactly do you do banded situps and banded knee raises?

    Thanks

attach th band to a dumbell or the bottom of the legraise bnch to do banded legraises.
If you have a GHR and you do situps off that, attach a band to the GHR, put it around your neck like it would strangle you, and do a situp, holding the band from strangluing you obviously.
If you have a situp bench you can do the same thing with the situp bench or a dumbell to hold the band.
If you are still unclear, i will find you a video or a better explanation.

janda situps can be done with a partner or a band, basically you are right though about not engaging the hip flexors, but you do go all the way up. As you get to the point where your flexors engage your partner pulls your feet away from you. You can also use the band for that.

Another thing to think about is pelvic tilt. It is a small form issue, but makes a big difference as far as avoiding fatigue and injury. You want to have an anterior pelvic tilt as you do sit ups of any type. In english this means you are rolling your hips forward. It is the opposite of what you would do for a squat or dl. It is difficult at first, but after a while you will be able to hold that tilt and it will stress your loser back and hip flexors less.

Thanks, I think I understand how to do it from your explanation.

I've noticed that once I get to around 55 situps or so and i'm at muscle failure, my ab's still feel like they've got some juice left in them and i'm still able to come half way up but no matter how hard i'm pushing I just cannot get all the way up, only half way... I guess it's my hip flexors that are giving out and not necessarily my ab's? So the pelvic tilt thing would help me especially once I got to this point when my hip flexors give out or did I read that wrong?

Also, flex holds are when i'm at the top of the movement and I flex/squeeze as hard as I can for a few seconds before going back down, right?

    Thanks

For your purposes flex holds should be an event, start off holding at 90 degrees for time, when you can do it for 2 minutes start holding weight at your feet.

Doing situps as fast as possible sounds retarted. Situps are not a natural motion for your body. Seems like a good way to injure yourself.

Also... doing 88 in 60 seconds isn't really that impressive. At that speed your using your back to throw yourself back down onto the pad.

why has no one asked. why do you need to do 100 sit ups in 2 minutes?

I just tried it and it was rather difficult. I did 67 though. You also might want to try some very slow reps in addition to the heavy work.
