I'm looking at purchasing a used car under 10k, and I want to see what you guys would recommend.

These are some of the things I'm looking for:

    1) must look good
    2) reliability
    3) reasonable power/quickness
    4) mpg should be avg or better

So what European car should I get?

I have been looking at this car for a while, but the only thing I'm worried about would be maintenance costs. Are the repair costs expensive like i think they would be? Also how many miles could this car handle if it has been up to date maintenance wise? 200K? 300K miles?

I've seen anywhere from 270-320k miles, a couple with more. I know of about 4 or 5 personally that have over 200k and run like mine which have 99k and 125k on them

Maintenance cost in terms of parts isn't that bad, plus once you replace most of the suspension (shocks, bushings, whatever else) and the cooling system, you'll be good for another 70-80k. You'd have to know how to work on it yourself though, which isn't that hard since it's designed well.

If you have to have someone else do the work it probably isn't the best car for you.

So are the 2000-2003 Audi A4s any good? They look good, but how reliable are they and Audi? Also should I go w/ the turbo or 3.0?

:werd: they get 20+ in the city very easily, and 25 if you drive pretty conservatively but still have fun

another vote for e36 M3. loved mine. looking to get another one. they only have a couple little issues that need to be corrected, like the plastic propeller in the original waterpump. Once they are corrected it is a solid car that is very fun to drive and you can mod it well. I've never owed an A4 Audi, but I've never heard good things about them. Lots of problems. And if you are looking to get into a german car and are trying to not spend a lot on maintenance, go buy a honda.

I'm in the same boat. I'm looking at another e36 m3 or a 540iT (wagon).

If I don't go euro, I'm looking at a gs430. Fast, decent looking, very reliable.

*had an m3 (the one in my avatar)

sold it while on the Dave Ramsey plan. Now I'm either going to pay cash for another one or buy a wagon. If only they made an e39 m5 touring.
