I'm looking at purchasing a used car under 10k, and I want to see what you guys would recommend.

These are some of the things I'm looking for:

    1) must look good
    2) reliability
    3) reasonable power/quickness
    4) mpg should be avg or better

So what American Muscle car should I get?

For much less than 10k you can get a '78 to '83 Malibu with some work done. Find a 4speed/4 speed conversion and swap a Camaro T-5 and gears into it. Looks are subjective, but even a 305 Malibu with an OD trans and some 3.73's will have acceptable acceleration and reasonable economy. Plus, a drivetrain doesn't get much more reliable than a small displacement carbed SBC, manny tranny, and 10 bolt.

If it will be reliable, then no. Oh for the most part I won't be driving it hard, maybe .5% of the time.

I've always been a big fan of the 5.0 Mustangs, pre1994. Also I"ve been thinking about maybe a dodge srt4 or a pontiac gto (if i can find one w/in budget).

To drive around in each day, no. To beat other cars with, okay.

    why?

i daily drive a f body, and there is no problems with it :dunno:

the only thing that sucks is the stiff suspension, when i hit a hole in the road it feels like i smash a big pothole

My main reason is that where I have to park, the spaces are narrow and opening the long-ass doors to get in and out could potentially be a real bitch.

yeah, i can understand, sometimes i have to wiggle myself out of the car

and the steering is so horrible, i cant park in smaller lots because i will have to do a 3 point turn to park/ get out of the spot

not to mention the hood is so damn long and its hard to see when backing up,i usually just pray that i dont hit a car when parking :hs:

Good luck, and if you're looking for a non-american used car you might try posting in the euro or asian subforums.

    Regal GS
    Grand Prix GTP

Super Reliable, Made a lot more horsepower and torque as the V8 Mustang the same year it was introduced, and they are very reasonably priced.
