I'm looking at purchasing a used car under 10k, and I want to see what you guys would recommend.

These are some of the things I'm looking for:

    1) must look good
    2) reliability
    3) reasonable power/quickness
    4) mpg should be avg or better

So what Eastern Import should I get?

Datsun 510. For that you can get one in good shape with anywhere from a L20B to SR/KA swap.

    I like my RSX-S.

200hp/2750lbs, roomy hatch, handles well considering FWD, leather seats, comfortable and all the normal power gizmos, ~28 mpg mixed use. YMMV on looks. Some people hate it. I'm not in love with it, but that's largely because I refuse to modify mine.

The better cars I know of for under $10k, most are pretty old now (like '00-01 S2000s, WRXs) and I wouldn't want to deal with the added age-related maintenance. YMMV also.
