Since I finally saw Nemesis, I'm comparing the films and thinking about the odd/even rule and exceptions, so now I'm curious how everybody feels about them.

I want to try something: I'm posting a poll, where you can select as many as you liked. The one with the most "approval" votes wins.

I don't know if we'll get enough votes for a clear winner to float to the top, so I would also like everybody to rank their choices here, in order from 1 to 10. #1 will get 10 points, #10 will get 1 point. We'll figure it out just like college basketball rankings.

    I'll start:

    1. First Contact (8)
    2. Wrath of Khan (2)
    3. Undiscovered Country (6)
    4. (tie) Search for Spock (3)/Voyage Home (4)
    6. Generations (7)
    7. Final Frontier (5)
    ------------
This is the cutoff point. I enjoyed everything above here, and didn't really care for anything below
    ------------
    8. Nemesis (10)
    9. Insurrection (9)
    10. Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1)

oh come on, Nemesis is way better than the Fianl Frontier, so is Insurrection

Generations will forever be on my Blacklist for killing the Ent D, that was completely uncalled for and stupid

I don't know... I liked Final Frontier and Generations. I'm a big fan of Kirk in particular and the original cast in general. If they had had the writing and technology that Next Generation had, it would have been awesome. What I liked about 5 was the way they really played up the character quirks and interactions. It's by far the best film for playing the Star Trek drinking game, and it's the best depiction of the characters, even though the plot isn't that good.

And I just hated insurrection. I didn't like it at all. Nemesis is a better movie than Final Frontier - I'll give you that. But I don't think it was a better Star Trek movie. :dunno:

Either way, Star Trek is like pizza: Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good. :big grin:

I voted for all the movies because I like them all.

My favorite is probably the voyage home though.

i like all the movies, but the ones i like least are either boring as hell (Motion Picture) or have numerous and stupid inconsistencies (Final Frontier)

Generations was good, there really was just no need at all for the D to be destroyed the way it was, that just pissed me off entirely, but the rest is good

Heh. It's cool. You choose a character and put on a movie. Every time your character overacts or does one of his "trademark" or stereotypical quirky things (example: Spock says "fascinating!" or talks about logic; McCoy says "Damn it, I'm a doctor, not a _____!") you drink.

It's the honor system. No cheating. And with STV I've never seen anybody left sober, no matter who their character is. :bigthumb:

Oh, and you have to keep drinking as long as the character goes on with his bit. The part that always kills me is when Kirk does his speech about how he needs his pain because it makes him who he is.

After 9 votes (I was hoping for more so we could get a clearer picture), here's the ranking:

Star Trek: First Contact (8) 7
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan 6
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home 5
    Star Trek: Generations (7) 5
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country 4
    Star Trek: Nemesis (10) 3
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock 2
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier 2
    Star Trek: Insurrection (9) 2
Star Trek: The Motion Picture 1

No big shockers. I'm a little surprised that Search for Spock is so low and Generations is so high, but the general order is about what I expected. It would be interesting to see everybody's personal rankings, to compare that to the actual vote.

I'll rank just the top five, from best to worst.

    First Contact
    Voyage Home
    Wrath of Khan
    Generations
    Nemesis

The others are alright, but I don't like them enough to try to rank them.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

It's a toss between First Contact and Wrath of Khan for me.

Honorable mention falls to TUC and NEM as my 3rd and 4th favorite Trek movies.

Well, after about 6 months, here's how the vote falls.
The movie sequence number is the roman numeral, and the number in parantheses is how many votes it got:

    1. Star Trek VIII: First Contact (14)
    2. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (11)
    3. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (7)
    4. (tie) Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (6)/Star Trek VII: Generations (6)
    6. Star Trek X: Nemesis (5)
    7. Star Trek IX: Insurrection (4)
    8. (tie) Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (2)/Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (2)
    10. Star Trek I: The Motion Picture (1)

Again, I'm a little disappointed at the weak showings for both Search for Spock and Final Frontier, but the general order is pretty much what I expected. :dunno:

    We need more votes.
