LOTR without a doubt. not just the best fantasy but the best movie EVAR!!

but ST: first contact and nemesis were really good as well for scifi.

ST: First Contact would definitely have to be my favorite Star Trek movie ever! Nemesis would probably be second. Insurrection was crap. All the TOS movies were alright, but really, TOS wasn't really my bag. TNG was the best Star Trek series, IMO.

I'd have to say Butterfly Effect was the best newer movie I've seen in a while...
For oldies, I'd say orig. Starwars, E.T.

   @LOTR

    Freejack

    In-Between:
    Reign of Fire

    Fantasy:
    LoTR (dur)
Harry Potter (even though I can't seem to like it)

Neverending Story (if you see how the story is told, and not just the plot, it's pretty )
    First Knight
    Last Dragon

    you've got some good points..

    DUNE, by far.

AI doesn't suck on any level unless you're too dumb to breathe.. the implications of being the last thing on earth that remembers humanity while not being human are pretty big..

They Live, campy, yes, but a great fight scene and great insight into subliminal marketing..

And where does Army of Darkness and Evil Dead fit in?

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Battlestar Galactica (which I saw in the theater when it was new. :bigthumb: )
Buck Rogers (which I also saw in the theater when it was new. :bigthumb: )

And even though it was cheesy, Flash Gordon was important.

WTF? What about original Star Wars Trilogy?

I have a tough time trying to decide which is superior between LOTR and SW4-6.

    Highlander

The rest of the movies were a travesty (I didn't even bother seeing Endgame). I also like Excalibur.

  20. The Matrix Trilogy was by far the best movie ever made...

... and if you shallow people would bring your eyes back into focus from staring at LOTR's billion dollar visual effects you would realize that the LOTR's is about as complicated and deep as a bowl of ice cream. The Matrix offered deep symbolism and, references to many different parts Myth and Religion. It also had a far better and more complcated plot. Where ever did Peter think of the idea of the evil forces distroying the happy kingdom? He must be a visionary!!!

    More I forgot to mention.

Alien (the original or director's cut. both were awesome)
    John Carpenter's The Thing

Two of the scariest movies I've ever seen. Yes, they both cross over into horror as well, but they are pure science fiction.

    Silent Running
    Westworld
    The Omega Man
Plan 9 From Outer Space ( Just kidding!)
