went to the local gunshop. he has a wasr-10 ak47, can't remember if its yugo or romainian, for $329. comes with two 30 round mags. looked in decent shape.

is this a fair price, cheap price, high price?

looking to get an ak, but don't want to get ripped off, thanks!!!

WASR's are romanian, $329 is about the going rate for one.

double check the function of the WASR, they seem to be a crap shoot.

Convert that Saiga. It wants it's pistol grip back.

 I'll take a saiga over a wasr anyday, you just need to do the pistol grip conversion now.

Make sure the sights look straight not canted to the side, check to see if mags go in the magwell freely, I think they use G2 triggers now so slap isn't an issue anymore.

lol, thought on an ak you don't need sights, spray and pray.

I'll check it out. It didn't look new, are there any new wasr-10s?

They have new ones, but the one you saw might be a new one they don't have that great of a finish on them.. If you want something that looks nicer you'll have to spend a bit more, or you can refinish it yourself the Romy wood usually cleans up pretty nicely with a good sanding and new stain, about $40 you can buy the materials to refinish the metal at home.

I really wouldn't bother with one of the pistols, for what you'd spend to buy one, you could put together a krink kit and get the sbr stamp if your in a nfa friendly state, I think a krinkov is much better choice easier to aim and shoot almost the same size as the pistols..

Gimik will probably be along to disagree with me shortly though.

I'd rate them in about this order
    Chicom Milled
    Arsenal Bulgaria
    SAIGA conversions *
    Hungarian
    Steyr Maadi
    Chicom Stamped
    Arsenal USA *
    Vector *
    Maadi
    Non WASR Romy's
    Century Yugo's *
    WASR's *

    * = still easily available
Now their's quite a few others that have been built up from kits by builders here in the U.S. those can vary greatly depending on who the builder is.

Yah, bear in mind that any kit that is built by a smith is going to vary greatly.

Personally, I'm only going smith built, cause the guy did a damn good job on my Romy G kit.

oh I don't disagree. I just don't like the extra work on the SBR stamp. A pistol is nearly as good and you can buy them without the stamp :dunno:

Plus you can always convert the pistol to an SBR later :o (which I'll never do, cuz it's a pain )

i got a saiga a few weeks ago in 7.62 for $239 plus $25 FFL transfer fee. it has the dimpled receiver and i've already installed a bullet guide and filed the magazine catch so i can run regular ak magazines.

go to http://forum.saiga-12.com/ for alot of conversion information and 922r compliance stuff. I'm currently running pro-mag magazines and a tapco gas piston for a total of 4 us made parts in order to be under the 10 part limit. (magazines count for 3 parts)

this guy sells alot of cool parts for saigas also. http://www.dinzagarms.com

I'll post up pictures once i get the ultimak gas tube and red dot installed.
