I'm looking for a new point and shoot camera that I can carry in my bag/purse for impromptu pics.

I've been looking at the Nikon coolpix and the Canon powershot -- any good?

    Thanks! :)

I normally shoot with a Nikon DSLR but would highly recommend a Canon Powershot for a point and shoot. I have an A630 and it has been awesome. It is very easy to use and the menus are very easy to navigate.

Depending on the Powershot, you can load up CHDK if you wish to kick it up a notch.

I carry an Olynpus 850SW since I go boating a lot during the summer. It's shock and water proof. It's a trade off with the optics and the ability to be fully submerged in water though.

My A640 turned out to be pretty decent. I'd be looking at the G10 for another P&S.

i just got the sd880is. great little cam. reminded me of how much i missed shooting videos.
i find myself using it a lot more than my 5d. which was its purpose.

Honestly though every P&S I've owned has broken. I wouldn't know what to buy, although I played with a nikon one in a store that I really liked :o

I figure the motorized lenses on them would be what's going?
