Looking for a Glock 17/19 9mm, or a 226, the gun stores near my house seem to be charging a lot of money, for a used 3rd gen Glock 17 9mm with one magazine and night sites they wanted $550, where can i get a decent price on a glock/226 ?

And another off the subject question, are all departments of law enforcement changing to the 226? I was under the impression that they all used Glock 17 .40's, but i have been calling around and they all use 226's, is one better than the other? Would it matter if i practiced on a glock and then a few years from now was issued a 226? thanks

    every department uses something different..

    the G17 is a 9mm, not a .40

as far as the pricing, $550 for a G17 BRAND NEW is a tad high, let alone for a used one.

Keep calling around, if nothing works out, find out what your local dealers will charge for a transfer fee, and order from www.topglock.com

My local PD uses Sig 229 in .40 S&W

I can tell you prefer glocks, lol, but as far as the comparison between a glock 40 and a 229, are they both equal in quality and accuracy?

I wanted to start out with a 9mm because ammo for the 40's is pricey, would it be a bad thing to shoot a 9mm as a first gun? Or is it not good to get comfterable with a gun that i won't even be using in the future

I found a guy who sells for 5% over his cost, plus shipping, no tax if you are out of state. Deadbangguns.com Just ordered my P2000 from him, great communication, rock bottom prices.

Also cdnn, gotta download the catalog to see the guns.

You're thinking of the Glock 22, not the 17.

It's fine to start with a 9mm. The recoil is easier and the ammo is cheaper (a little). You can learn on anything. Some people learn on .22s. Once you get the basics it's just a question of adapting to the differences between guns, which is not a big deal (I shoot decently with a 9mm or .45 despite only owning a rat plinker!)

You could always buy an XD40 and get the 9mm conversion barell for it.

boy your leaning about Kalifornia prices already. My buddy just picked up a used P229 (.40cal) from a police officer friend of his. Man its a SWEET gun. He says it was an LEO only model, but im not sure if i believe him.

Depending on where you are in Nor Cal, go to Jackson Arms in South city, nice range to rent stuff. And try out the two guns, see what works best for ya. Then purchase one. San Carlos uses Sig p229's i think. I have heard Highway Patrol uses Smith and Wesson semi-autos (though i cant verify this). Most agencies on the peninsula use sigs or glocks as ive found.

Or Reeds Gun Range in San Jose, though Reed's gun shop is DAMN expensive.

Where in Nor Cal are you, i cant point you to a couple good shops on the peninsula in the bay area.
