None of my local stored carry any good used o/u's. There is a gun show this weekend though. I'll probably hit that up. Do gun shows usually have good prices or are they there to rip off noobs. Gun Broker is a rip too.

  2. Gun shows are really hit-or-miss. Go and look, but be prepared to leave without a gun.

I was just at Dick's today to check out the Remington Spartan in person. Buds has it for $319 and you can tell its a 300 dollar gun. The wood is crap and the lockup is so fucking hard. I want to find a good used mid-range o/u or pump. An 870 Wingmaster or an older Browning o/u.

A friend of mine runs a web site here in the KC area for local gun owners to buy/sell their guns to each other... I'd assume other places have something similar?? The local motorcycle forum also tends to have lots of guns listed in the classified section, but us motorcycle peeps tend to also be gun nuts (like 90% of my riding buddies are also gun owners)....

why do you want a used gun anyway? you can get a new one for $50 more usually and know it wasn't abused

If you buy a gun off gun broker, do you still need to go through a FFL, even if it is in the same state??

    That's not exactly right.

ALL FFL dealers will need you to complete a form 4473 and comply with whatever laws (i.e. background check, waiting period, etc...) applicable in your area. IF you buy from an FFL you will either need to drive to them or have them ship it to your local FFL for transfer to you.

If you buy from an individual within your state then Federal law does not require that you go through and FFL and complete a form 4473.

Auction sites (which aren't a rip), and forums are my go-to spots. I also talk to everyone in my hometown, and make friends with them. Picked up insane deals there when people are hurting for cash, and know that I like to trade guns for money. Also, rural gun shops can sometimes net a score on stuff.

You are looking for people who either don't know, or need money. Find out where these people congregate.

pawn shops and private local gun shops are really hit and miss. in my experience, atleast here, they seems to cater too bolt action hunting rifles and lever action rifles. maybe thats what you're into, but i'm not.

I have no problem saving ~$50 if someone put 100-200 rounds through a Glock and it's still in like new condition. Once I take a new one to the range, it'll be in the same condition as the used one I could have saved money on to buy extra ammo or mags.
