I configured a nice dell inspiron 1520 but someone told me that if something happens to the laptop I have to ship it over to dell and it could take 2-3 months for them to fix and return it to me.

So, are there any good retailers with good warranty where they can fix your laptop quickly? Are places like futureshop or best buy good?

Or should I just buy the dell and hope that it doesnt fall apart after a couple of years?

You might as well hope the sun won't rise tomorrow. Don't get a Dell.

I'm surprised Jolly didn't recommend Asus.

I currently own an Asus so take this for what it's worth....
I love my Asus. However I'm not liking their new ones.

If I were to get a new machine, it'd be a Lenovo or Apple.

if you do go with a dell, you can upgrade the warranty to next business day onsite, and I've used it a couple of times at work with great results.

The thing about dell warrantys is that you WILL use it. And they contract out so it's hit and miss. But paying a lot of money for essentially a guarantee that you're going to be out of service with a broken machine fairly often -- that's not cool.

Not to mention when the machine does work a Dell always seems to under-perform based on specs.
