I have this one. I think you can get one off of ebay for around 60-80 dollars if you look.

http://www.amvona.com/?page=shop/flypage&view=1&product_id=1838 (Do a serarch for 828 on eBay, I returned several results some under $50) The 828 and 828BL are identical, the 828BL is the black version, the other is a graphite color.

I have it, and I love it. The pistol grip ball head is nice, and it supports a bit of weight. I normally use it with my 70-200 f/2.8

I have the same one and I've NEVER had problems with it. It also goes vertically easily and sturdy. It's kinda heavy but it's worth it to me to have the stability.

If you've invested a lot on your camera, don't get a cheap tripod--the last thing you want is a cheap piece of equipment holding an expensive piece of equipment.

    Amvona AT-828BL on eBay

Just won one on eBay, the legs and pistol grip all for only $66.42 + $21 s/h = $87.42. The average winning bid was about $64 and the s/h was always $21, if you win more than one item from Amvona you can get a discount of $2.00 off on multiple items.

Hasn't arrived yet (only been 2 days) but from what I can dig up on the net the reviews are positive, compares well with similar name brands like bogen and manfrotto but at a fraction of the price.

Amvona has lots of these, several each day, so don't overbid and use auctionsniper* to improve your chances of winning.

*shameless referrer plug so I can earn free snipes on auctionsniper

The thing is, they will have a smell of machine oil when you first open the bag...they are manufactured in China, but after its out- its good to go. I really like the tripod. No issues yet and it works great. I need to buy a Monopod now. :hs:

Read that same complaint too. Had looked around for an alternative but really wanted the combo legs and pistil grip head, couldn't find anything better in that price range so I figured I would take a chance. Glad to hear the smell goes away and that your pleased with it. Can't wait to get mine in the mail.

i skipped the Bogen 3021 and went with the Gitzo G2220. its more expensive but i like it more when i used them both

the 3021 uses clamps and the g2220 uses twist locks
