In the past I've always used a belt which you can attach plates to for Weighted Dips and Pullups. My current gym doesn't have any equipment like this so I was curious how I could do it with dumbbells and in the best way?

Was thinking of trying to hold the dumbbell between my lower thighs/upper knees... :dunno:

you could hold a dumbbell between your feet but why don't you just buy a dip belt and bring it with you?

Invest in a belt. But if you must do it this way... Then instead of crossing your legs, bend them at the knees and hold a dumbbell resting on your calves. Have the handle part in between them and have one side of the weight resting on the two calves and the other side will just be hanging... I would just buy a belt or go to a different gym.

add the belt and lose the gloves and then you'll still have the same # of items :mamoru:

I just hang it between my feet side by side, but when going heavy it tends to slip a little.

This works great for me, but then I've only gone to 31 lbs dumbbells so far.. my gym has a belt but I think it looks a bit too much to go through all that if I'm not even gonna put a 44 lbs plate in it :wiggle:

When you can concentrate on dipping and less on holding a dumbbell with your legs/knees/shins/toes/whathaveyou...you might find that you can use a bit more for dips.

Besides, doing pullups and holding a DB with your feet is a PITA. A belt is easy, inexpensive, and flexible (quickly add or decrease the weight lifted for pullups and dips...I can dip with a pair of 45s but no way would I try to hold a 90lb DB with my legs).

+1 for the belt. now way im holding a 45lb dumbbell between my feet for pull ups, or a 60lber for dips.

I don't really have to concentrate on holding a 30 lbs dumbbell between my feet :p Ofcourse if I was doing 45 lbs or more, then the dumbbell would be harder to hold up, thus making the belt the best. But at lower weights I prefer dumbbells just because it saves me time

cross one foot over the other

    lift dumbbell, put in between

feet are locked, so it doesn't fall

    do dips/pullups

    ain't rocket science
