I am looking to buy my younger brother a laptop. All he needs it for is basic internet browsing. He doesn't do any gaming or such. It must be new, not refurb. And it must have Windows 7 64bit and have at least 3gb ram.

    Thanks,

If he is just browsing the web, why does it need Windows 7, to be 64-bit, or have at least three gigabytes of RAM?

You just missed out on the deal Walmart had on the 15" emachine win 7 build with 3gb, for $299.

Deals are common though, and if you wait till memorial day weekend, you should be able to find some good prices.

Maybe he's like me and likes to have 200 tabs open at once :dunno:

It was a dual core Intel T4400 build.

Get him a netbook. All of them seem to come with Windows 7 these days. As for needing at least 3GB RAM, why? He isn't playing any games and watching videos online doesn't require a ton of memory. Save yourself some money and get a system with less memory.

Acer AS1410, I have one and absolutely love it. They are a bit pricey at Newegg currently (I only paid $399 for mine from Newegg) but you can probably find them on amazon or something.

Make sure you get the model with the SU2300 dual core CPU (and dont be scared by the Celeron name, its just an undervolted Core2Duo) and not the older single core Celeron M 743

And windows 7 runs fine with 2 gigs of RAM
