I graduate in a few months and I need to know. Any ideas?
What are you looking for? There's quite a few nice laptops available for around $1500.
If you're not too tied to Windows, the iBook (or maybe even the bottom-end PowerBook) is a very nice choice around that price.
Do you want super mobile? Desktop replacement? What man, making a post like this is like going to a restaurant and saying you want something to eat.
You know what get an iBook. Here
Check out the Dell 600M. They are really sweet notebooks. You can get a lot from them for $1500.
http://www.sagernotebook.com gets my vote. I got my 3790-S from PCTorque.com
dell is not good
that's th eone I have and I'm loving it.
btw, i have a dell inspiron 9100...of course they don't carry them anymore, but see if you can grab one up somewhere else online...
i got mine w/ a 3.0ghz ht pentium 4 (not the mobile edition or anything, a regular p4), 512mb ddr333 ram, 60gig hd, wireless, upgraded screen, extra battery all for $1400...i had to take off the 4 years of tech support/warranty and gave myself the most minimum software bundles they would let me, but that is the cheapest and fastest laptop you will get...i haven't seen another new non-mobile-version pentium 4 for under $1600
The replacement for the 9100 is the 9200. They have pentium M processors and nice 17" screens. Rumor has it that the 9300 is coming later this month, so the 9200's are on sale right now. You can get a really nice one for $1700.
i am glad i got in on the 9100 before they discontinued them...they are much more powerful than any of the 9200 models (although i wish it was thinner like the 9200) and for whatever reason, the 9200 is more expensive, even with an inferior processor
name another company that makes computers that are as reliable as dell for anywhere near the price range...there aren't any...no need to be an elitist here, dell makes good computers for ridiculous prices
Sorry but dell isn't as great as they used to be, my friend has a 600M, already had to replace the hdd and the screen, after going through a big hassle with the customer service because they thought he didn't know what he was talking about.
Worked for a university that used mostly dells for their general use computers. Problems left and right with them.
They used to be good, they used to be damn good. But they've dropped the ball big time.
i work IT at my school and we used to have a contract with gateway and apple...obviously the gateways were horrible...i have friends that have bought them (against my advice) but i think that every single one of them has been sent back at least a few times for various issues...i also have had the same experiences with alienware, compaq, etc. etc....we now buy dells and have very very few problems with them especially when comparing it to previous buy ins with other companys
dell may have lowered the quality slightly, but they are still lightyears ahead of any other company that sells for similar prices...i have a bad wireless card in my inspiron, but even with that, i am still confident with dell since i have seen how many non-problematic computers they churn out all the time
so seriously, can you name another company even close?
I currently *OWN* a gateway. Love it. I have owned 4 dells. Never again.
You want me to name a company that is BETTER than dell for LESS? Sure: Asus.
now please kindly
you are honestly the first satisfied gateway customer i have ever herad of...and my boss is a certified gateway tech and says the same thing
and i wouldn't consider asus in the same league as dell...they aren't even close as far as perspective buyers are concerned...i could build a computer that is cheaper and more reliable than dell, but once again, i'm not in the same league as dell...i don't consider asus to be either...i'll bet i could ask the next 500 people who come into me at work within the next week or so and MAYBE 10 of them will have heard of asus and most likely all 500 of them will have heard of dell
you didn't ask what the average (dumb) person *thought*. You asked what was better.
it's not my problem that you and most other people are not informed.
do you really think that asus is direct competition for dell? seriously?
and don't call me uninformed...you don't know anything about me
I know plenty about you. I know you think dell is good -- and that's all that I need to know about you.
And, no, asus is not direct competition for dell. That's like saying a lexus competes with a kia... Dell is the kia, and Asus is the lexus.
If you go with Dell, go with a Latitude. I've got the new Latitude X300 and it kicks ass.
