I am a heavy user of disc imaging software. My old habit was Alcohol 120, but I am a new disciple of Daemon Tools.

My old drives where bought on the cheap and they will not do the low level reading that Daemon Tools needs to do things like Securerom and such.

So, what is the best SATA out there?

the liteon lasted a year and then stopped recongnizing discs

everthing else works well, no complaints. they will all eventually break though

Have had great luck with Plextor (~4 years old) and Pioneer (~6/7 years old). My Samsung is only 7 months old and works fine but sometimes has issues with encrypted stuff.

Weird thing is it came with my old Sony computer. I would of thought Sony would use Sony/NEC optical drives. Still burns DVDs though.

I also know a guy who does a lot of burning and has been doing it for quite some time. He swears by TDK burners.

the BEST is Plextor. Not question about it.

if you'd rather get 3 drives for the price of one plextor, then Lite-On is 2nd place for me.

i had a plextor and a nec die one me. nec after heavy usage, plextor after light usage. my samsungs and liteon's are still surviving.

i only have a pioneer dvd rom drive and that's still working fine.

*brand* cdr/w drives are all still working now. i think.
