vBulletin destroys all the others. Invision might be the only one that comes close. phpBB is a waste of time, don't bother with it.

The new phpBB will blow vB out of the water when it comes out.

I personally like vBulletin, but if you don't want to swing the cash, phpBB or Invision will do. If you're starting a new community, start with free software. You don't want to drop a lot of money into a failed site.

vBulletin is the best. But it costs money.

Out of the free, I personally find Invision the best.

vBB hands down.. none even come close, even the soon-to-be-released new version of phpBB.. none of them compare..

Install Invision, grow the site, then upgrade and merge to vBB. Pretty easy and your members will love you.

i'm currently using zeroforum to run my site, but it's very expensive. how difficult would it be to transfer the data from zeroforum to something like vbulletin, phpbb, or invision?

vBulletin has conversion scripts for many of the major forum makers. Check their support forums to see if zeroforum is one of them.
