I also use torrents, but it seems you can usually only find the whole album. Know of any good sites for just songs?

    soulseek (slsknet.org) very good program.
Or, ftp. Search for files at oth.net

These are both excellent options. Or so I've heard.. I don't, of course, actually download any mp3s, that'd be dishonest.

Torrents are an awful way to get music, you'll get a much better selection if you use use DC++ or soulseek.

The only thing about newsgroups are you have to get them within X amount of days, or the .nzb file will be no good.

Here's a really good site for finding DC hubs www.hublist.org. Most of the public hubs one's are rubbish.

Torrents work well, especially if you want the whole album.

yeah...no. I've downloaded ~80 gigs of music (all APS, APX, or lossless) in the past few weeks...all from torrents. Doens't seem like an awful way to me.

    OiNK FTW.

It's not about speeds or amounts man, it all depends on what your looking for. All the torrents sites I've seen have a good selection of well known/commercial/slighlty underground stuff, but if you want to get anything obscure then your fucked. I stopped using torrents and switched to DC because I couldn't find anything that I wanted on torrent sties.

I should have re-phrased my post I suppose, go with torrents if you can find what you want, but I can guarantee that if you find a decent set of DC hubs that you'll pretty much always find what your looking for. Even stuff like a one man black metal band that released a single demo tape in 1989 can be found on DC, and I think soulseek has a pretty spandangling selection too.

my personal experiences with azareus and torrenspy have been realy good the past couple years. isohunt.com is also a great torrent website. make sure you read up on what a torrent is/how it works before you start playing around with it though.

I guess I was a little misleading in what I said...cause the only torrent site I use for music is OiNK...which I think has an outstanding selection of music. Everything else is pretty much crap. OiNK is the perfect place to find complete (nearly complete anyhow) collections from a particular artist.

For example, check out this 7.92GB Dream Theater torrent:

    Bootleg (1994) The Awake Demos
    Bootleg (1995) Acoustic Dreams
Bootleg (1997) Falling Into Infinity Demos
    Bootleg (1998) Live in Rotterdam
    Bootleg (1998) Trial Of Singles
    Bootleg (2002) Forbidden Dreams
Bootleg (2002) Four Degrees Of Radio Edits
    Bootleg (2002) The Atco Demos
Bootleg (2002) When Demos And Singles Unite
Bootleg (2005) Dark Side of the Moon
Bootleg (2005) Live In Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam, 10-10-2005
Bootleg (2005) Live In Stockholm, 09-29-2005
Fanclub (1996) International Fan Club Christmas CD 1996
Fanclub (1997) The Making of Falling Into Infinity
Fanclub (1998) International Fan Club Christmas CD 1998
Fanclub (1999) Cleaning Out The Closet
Fanclub (2000) International Fan Club Christmas CD 2000
Fanclub (2000) Metropolis 2000 Limited Fanclub Edition
    Fanclub (2003) Graspop Festival 2003
    Fanclub (2003) Taste The Memories
Fanclub (2005) A Sort of Homecoming
Live (1993) Live at the Marquee
Live (1998) Once In A LIVEtime
