I am aware some of the lower line Rainbows are under a grand, i think, dont remember which.

Other speakers im not confident on price about:

    Diamond Audio D9

    Anything Dynaudio

    Arc Audio ACS

On to stuff I do know:

    CDT Audio EuroSport Z Series

    MB Quart QSD

    Boston Acoustic Z Series

    JL Audio XRs

    Focal W3

I would go for the Boston Z's.

Never heard the boston Zs, I wonder if they would compare to the D9s or Eurosports.

another good arguement: 2-way vs. 3-way

i sent them an inquiry, im also pretty annoyed when these audio places dont list their prices or allow direct sales. Especially because in order to find rarer stuff I have to travel quite a ways to a dealer. bah

this is a discussion over speakers as in front components, not subwoofers.

Kicker is loud and thats about it, their sound quality is a little under par

How much? I have been wanting either some Pro's and a 300/2, or Z's and a 300/2. Pro's would be better for me, Z's are 1 grand, Pro's are 500-600. I can't really spend $1000 on one pair of speakers.

Boston Acoustic Zs are only 1000 msrp, you can get them for 600 bucks.

Alpine Type X non F1 status speakers around 250 and under.

Dynaudio, DLS, Morel, ScanSpeak, Focal Utopia, Oz Audio .. all very nice. Morel & ScanSpeak are driver oriented rather than component sets.

You could always go horns :)
