I just recently purchased a Canon PowerShot S2 IS and now in retrospect I'm kind of curious... what would people consider to be the "best" camera under $600? P&S or dSLR(if there are any that cheap).. I'm new to photography and don't know much about it, so I don't even know where to start..

you could get a dslr for that price especially used, but no lenses, tripod, memory, cable release, bag etc

I have a Canon G6. It's perfect for me since I'm not too very serious about photography yet it still gives great quality photos.

I have a G6 also...you can find it for like 450 which I think is good. Going for a 350D very soon though :wiggle:

go with the G6 or its competitor the V3, if you dont really want to spend much avoid DSLR like the plague, its an addiction! and you WILL spend easily more than twice what the camera cost you on lenses

i think the canon g6 and the sony v3 (very cool looking) are both good cameras - but why don't you like your current S2? You can't beat the zoom on it - also there's the Sony H1 with similar zoom too.
