So after my nikon coolpix camera died I've been cameraless for quite awhile! I'll admit I don't have a lot of camera experience but am looking for a challenege :)

I've been shopping around looking at cameras and honestly, I find myself a little bewildered :wiggle:

So to cut it short. What would be a good starting camera for me to play around with. I have a budget of about 200-300pounds.. Im guessing thats about 350-400$. I had fun with my old camera but I wouldnt mind something with a bit more oomph :noes: Do you think a SLR would be too much for someone like me to start with? :hsd: Thanks in advance!

Cliffs: Camera noob. What would be a good starting camera with a bit of oomph!?

Go to a local camera store and try a few out. If you are going to be shooting a lot of pics and need the versatility of an SLR look into it, if not Point and Shoot is prolly for you. Ohh yeah, take part of that $$$ and buy an av :mamoru:

    My bad. :hs:

I've had a look at both the canon S2 and S3 - both look good. Am off into town today to have a fiddle with some - keep suggestions coming :wiggle:

I have a Canon S2 IS and I love it, you can play with almost all settings, it's fast, great pics and still fairly "inexpensive"

Be sure to get at least 1Gb of memory and a good set of batteries/charger

I have had my s2 is for a bit as well.

I am almost in love with it.

Went to a wedding and all pictures turned out awesome except for the ones from the reception. The pro photog there had a huge slr with an even bigger flash.

The Tv mode worked great for in the church.

I have even been able to take pics at 12x zoom of rc plains and they turned out!!!
