Who do you guys think was the best band that came out in the late 80s through the 90s? I'm gonna have to go with Metallica.

    Nirvana anyone?

I agree they're slightly overrated, but nevertheless, they were truly ground-breaking.

To be quite honest, I believe they're the band of this decade as well. Nothing can top Kid A for me.

Nirvana was good and definately groundbreaking but if you are talking about the best group of musicians and best music I would definately go with Radiohead and NIN.

I honestly can't see the musical talent of NIN.

Are you kidding me? Trent Reznor is one of the most innovative and talented musicians of our time. He is one of the first people to integrate electronic music into rock and it actually sound good. Without Nine Inch Nails we wouldnt have a lot of the music we have today.

I've listened to their music and it doesn't sound as great as you tell it. Electronic music isn't what I'd call musicianship, and saying it inspired much of today's music isn't saying much.

I disagree. Trent has done a fantastic job of marrying harsh industrial sounds with pop sensibilities (listen to ANY of his songs, they're all written like pop songs). He is a musical genius. Although programming doesn't necessarily take musical talent, what Trent has been able to do with his albums (The Fragile, for example) is nothing short of brilliant.

Still not as good as Radiohead, though. :)

jeff tweedy really doesn't get the credit he deserves. Every one of wilco's albums is so radically different than the last, but they always have the wilco flavor. It's really quite ingenious.

I guess I never realized how many good bands there were in the 90s?

Fixed. Try Opeth for proof that brilliant new music is still being written and performed today.

it's too bad the stone roses' second album was sheisty, otherwise they'd easily be number one. Their self titled is easily top five albums of all time.
