I've been in the habit of using Norton but some friends said that AVG is much better. And free.

    Any recommendations?

AVG hasn't been free for some time so if you already own norton stick with it. I use pc-cillin for my winboxes and it seems to be up to task for me. I look forward to seeing what other users prefer.

Kaspersky is what I use. It's a pretty nice program that updates every hour and has a nice lil sound if you find a bug.

I like Avast. It has an Internet scanner, which has caught some trojans that are on some sites. It would scan every file quickly before your browser opens it. It also an an automatic update, so I don't worry about it at all. AVG Free, I constantly have to update it manually.

Well, if you're buying... you would buy Nod32 or Kaspersky. They aren't as bloated and catches more viruses, more quickly.

It's kind of funny that the big name anti-virus programs are either bloated or don't do any good any more.

:werd: I used to use Norton 2003 Corp, and then I switched to Trend Micro's PC-Cillin. It's amazing how much bloat there is in those applications. I don't NEED 16,000 processes watching my every move, both online and offline.

I've been happily using AVG for a few months now, and have 0 complaints.

I went to work (the local library) and found the Consumer Reports best picks of 2005...

All I remember is 1) Pc-Cillin and 2) Kaspersky :bigthumb:

Honestly, I don't remember where AVG came in at.. :dunno:
