I currently have a gigabyte hsf and it worked great for a while, but now it makes a loud buzzing sound and its extremely annoying.
    i have an athlon 64 3400+ (socket 939)
what would be the best HSF to keep it cool but still be quiet. I work from home, and its so annoying to hear this buzzing all day.

get the biggest one you can. Thermalright makes the Ultra 120 Extreme. It will take a 120mm fan, so you can get a range of 120mm fans from a low of 8.7dBa and 34cfm and a high of 38dBa and 110cfm. You basically get a bigger, slower moving fan that still pushes more air than a smaller 80 or 92mm fan while being quieter.

Or you could just buy a new fan.

    Fans are easy to replace.

I have the 7000 (smaller with 92mm fan) on a athlon 64 3500 and I keep it just up from the lowest possible setting using the included controller. Its not a great performer, but my desktop doesnt do jack. Its quiet as :bigthumb:

the 7700 should only be better.
