I'm going to be purchasing the dell 2001fp (20.1") monitor, unless i can find a better one for a similar price, very soon. In everyone's opinion, what's the best lcd for GAMING? Not for movies, windows, etc.. I'm talking about Doom3, Far Cry, and soon to be released games such as HL2 and Q4. Are there any other monitors that can compete with dell's price/performance?

I wouldn't be looking at a 20" LCD for gaming, look into the 17" Samsungs with the 12ms response time, lower the response time the better for gaming.

my verdict for gaming is fuck lcd for right now
get an absolute top of the line CRT
the performance gap is just way too wide still
as well as the price, especially when you get into the size you are talking about
they are pretty though, and they are the tech of the future
but i prefer the refresh rates and max resolutions over that

well i have a 2 1/2yr old gateway 18.1" LCD.. i'm not going down to 17" and i'm already use to the overall size of the monitor (not a bulky crt). as far as resolutions, the 2001fp goes up to 1600x1200 and that's as high as i'd want to go. also the ghosting on my current lcd is absolutely horrible. i'm sitting here w/ a 6800 ultra and i can't utilize it at all. i'm hoping the 2001fp will be a big enough diff from my shitty lcd that i might not even notice the ghosting; or atleast not notice it too much..

The 2001fp is 16ms, whereas the 18.1 is most likely 25ms or worse.

There is a legion of 2001fp that will tell you it is fantastic for gaming. I game on a 25ms and it's fine.

213t is okay for gaming. not great, but livable.

the 2001fp has horribly ghosting issues, imo.

Well I have the Viewsonic VP201... which is basically the same as the Dell 2001fp...

Seriuosly I won't recommend it for gaming... The response time is one thing, the contrast is another.

Also keep in mind that if you can't run your game at 1600x1200. (I got 9800 pro and I can't run most game at 1600x1200 smoothly), then you will need to get it down to 800x600. 1280x960 doesn't look very good to be honest...

So, you are still better off with hum... a good honest CRT for gaming... an 19" is pretty cheap nowadays... 21" is somewut reasonable...

    I also game on a 25ms and it's beautiful - I have 2 samsung 191Ts.

I would still go with the 2001FP if you're buying new though - hell I'd get 2 of 'em
