MOS's of marine corps officers and why?

I am browsing the large list of jobs and it is almost intimidating. I am not looking for your average 9-5 desk job such as a finance officer for example. I would like to avoid a straight, boring, average desk job if at all possible.

I am confident I will score high on both the physical and exam portions of testing and I was informed you can select either 3 or 5 as your preferred...

having said that, what are the most coveted marine MOS's and why? I really would like to hear from you guys. Thank you

Infantry Officer slots are probably the most competitive in the Marines.

From what I heard from a friend that was an Infantry Officer in the Marines, it was very competitive at TBS for an 0302 slot and not everyone that wanted one got one.. This was a few years ago, not sure about now though..

why does it matter what the most coveted is/isnt?

do what sounds the most appealing to you.

he wants people to know who he is...
same reason i first wanted to be an officer and a pilot... i wanted the bar on my shoulder, make my family proud and people would know who i was... i wanted to be better than other people :hsugh:

took me a few years to realize i was in it for all the wrong reasons because of my self-esteem even though i was a high achiever, i had to be the highest achiever. hung around some military folk both enlisted and officers and realized that having a bar or an oak leaf on your shoulder doesnt mean much, its the person who wears it.

not to discourage him because i still dream of being an officer in the air force, but for a whole new set of reasons which i think are more healthy and mature, though i will probably never get there now

bigg negatory on that one. its up to the person... im not in the military but i did lots of thinking and met LOTS of people and have lots of friends who took the life path i didnt. everyone in my detatchment wanted to be topgun pilot type dude.. 90% had NEVER flown a plane before but it was the thing to strive for.... fast forward 4 years of blood sweat and tears and one guy is a trained navigator and has a countdown on facebook to the number of years and days until hes out of the air force, another was a strike nav and dropped out because he hated flying, a few are pilots and had no idea what they were getting themselves into. just because its coveted doesnt mean it will be appealing to you..
i was in that boat, i sucked so much proverbial dick as a cadet to get a pilot slot then after the fact, i learned to fly as a civilian and realized that i do indeed love flying but the dreams of being a fighter pilot are just gone. i have no desire to be cramped up in a little bubble in a machine designed strictly to kill despite the thrills and chills of such a machine.

Yeah as crazy as it sounds, 0302 Infantry is pretty highly coveted and you really need to be tops at TBS to get a slot.

Armor/Tank Officer is also difficult to get as there are very few spots given away for it.

I've talked to a bunch of guys and all of them said, kill PT and stand out at TBS if you want 0302.

Good luck at OCS. I'm going to PLC this summer.

Nothing the Marine Corps can offer can compare to leading Marines in combat. Period. That's what the Marine Corps does, yeah being an intel officer, pilot, etc. is all nice and cool but nothing compares to actually leading Marines in combat.

Thank you for the responses gentlemen, this is what I was looking for. My grandfather was infantry AND armor and I am planning on doing everything in my god given abilities to follow that path.

May I ask why? You don't have to do something he did. My Dad and brother were both infantry but I didn't go that route. Just trying to tell you that the only way you're going to be happy is if you do what you want to do, not because your grandpa did it. :)

I guess I look up to my grandfather in that respect and would like to make it a tradition in one form or another. It is something I do want to do and I am not being pressured to do it. In fact I am getting the opposite reaction from the family.

I don't think they like pilots, my friend had that MOS but everyone hazed him or gave him to shit to be more hardcore and do more front lines shit so he changed it.
