Do you think the gun is good for a beginner?

Im really looking into getting one. I felt it and it sits very good in the hand.

I have experience with shooting, shotguns, rifles and some AR experience, but no pistol experience.

    Anyone own the gun? Opinions?

    :x:

Gonna be a gun crew member.

I have a 96FS (same as the 92, but 40S&W instead of 9mm). They are OK out of the box. There are some cheap and easy parts you can add to make it better:

Grips: Stock grips were pretty hard on my hands after shooting it for a while. Swapped out with Houge wrap-around grips. About $20 with shipping.

Recoil buffer: probably not as big a deal with the 9mm, but adding the recoil buffer helped with my .40. Added bonus was that it resulted in swapping out the plastic guide rod with stainless steel. $24 or so I think.

Hammer spring: the stock spring is a bit heavy. Swapping it out with a lighter one reduced the DA pull weight. $8 or so

I also lightly polished the contact surfaces on the hammer. Smoothed out the DA trigger pull. $Free

I like the Berettas because they are good pistols and are pretty cheap compared to most other new pistols of the same quality. I picked mine up at a local shop new for under $500 out the door.

I own an M9. Not the best gun for a beginner in my opinion.

They are big and heavy. The DA trigger can be difficult to learn. Most shooters will end up thumb cocking the hammer for a SA trigger which is a bad habit. I also dislike the safety down/decock up Beretta style decocker.

i have a 92FS... i love it but i would suggest something of smaller caliber with a light trigger for a beginner... if you have had guns before go ahead and get it... if not go get a walther p22... i've had one of them for a while and i dont think i'll get rid of it... even though the 92fs is just that much more powerful i like taking the p22 to the range and hopefully it'll have a suppressor soon :naughty:

Try out the Vertec version. Much better grip IMO.

My dad got a 92FS as our first centerfire pistol. It's pretty accurate and easy to maintain. The recoil is manageable and I reccomend it as a first pistol.

I have a 92FS and its a great gun if you like 9mm. I would definately reccomend a grip change, as my Hogue wrap around makes the gun 100% better to shoot, as it does not increase the grip width by much. I think you should probably stick with 9mm as you are a beginner. Its cheap and easy to manage the recoil, so you can concentrate on proper shooting stance and eliminating trigger jerk.

I was thinking about a baby eagle compact in .45 later on.
Bills are owning me right now though. :wtc:
