I think that I am going to start working out in the morning because it fits my schedule better since I don't have to be in work until 10, unless there are specific reasons as to not work out in the mornings? Anyone know any benefits or negativities about working out in the morning?

I wouldn't have a big meal before you workout. If I ate my normal breakfast (1 cup oatmeal, 4 large eggs, 2 scoop protein shake in milk, and 2tbsp peanut butter) before a workout, especially legs or back, I'd throw that shit up all over the place :o

Get something in your stomach to give you energy, but nothing that's going to work its way out mid-set.

dont be hungry, but don't be full either.

IMO differences from the time you workout is negligible and it all depends on the effort you put in. If mornings work out better for your schedule then go then.

I work out at 5am 3 days during the week and around 11am on Sat / Sun. I like working out at 5am because you are fresh. If I try to work out after work, I found myself making too many excuses not to go or compromising on my routine if I did go.

as GTLifter (I think) pointed out in another thread, if you work out in the afternoon, you've been moving around for hours and your joints are relatively warm and lubricated. if you work out right after waking up, you joints and muscles will still be cool so you need to make sure you get an extra good warmup in

I dunno if there's any benefit to working out in the morning or in the afternoon, but I definitely prefer afternoon. By far.

I asked this exact same question a few years ago and from what I remember I was told working out in the morning was actually better than working out at night... but it wasn't really a big deal either way.

Supposedly you'll burn more calories and fat in the morning.

Good god no. I'd throw up from that alone. 1/2 cup dry, 1 cup cooked.

I usually eat 500 cals before and after my workout... About an hour before, and then right after.

i am NOT a morning person AT ALL. i don't think i've even tried going to the gym in the morning...i just know I'll get there and lift a couple dumbbells and say "fuck it"

i go to the gym 10pm or later most of the time

like people have already said, go when you can have the time and energy to do it

i usually work out at night, but i used to workout in the mornings while i was at uni-theres really not much of a difference as long as i have the energy at that particular time. i would not work out directly after waking up-2-3 hours after getting up would be fine, since im fed and awake.

as for eating, i generally snack first, drink lots of water and then feed up really big straight after. oh, and if im working out at night, i still eat big after, even if im going to bed within the hour.

The only negative I can think of is that it takes me longer to warm up if I try to hit the gym in the morning. I have to do a lot more to get prepared for my lifting session (especially for stuff like squats and deads...other stuff isn't as bad)

i usually have a small nibble before i work out in the morning, like a special k breakfast bar or something (they are tiny) and then my normal breakfast afterwards...eating afterwards while your heart rate is still high is what ive always been taught is the best way...but not having anything in your stomach after a full nights sleep is supposed to be bad for the metabolism too...plus an empty stomach just doesnt feel good
