I'm pretty set on an XTi and a 50mm thrifty fifty lense.

Photography is just a small hobby of mine, and I"ve been putting off buying a DSLR camera since I dropped my P&S back in '04.

I'm ready to bite the bullet, but i'm curious to know if the prices of the nearly out of date XTi will fall enough to warrant waiting an extra few months to purchase?

ballers with the 24-70L crew just signed in I see:wtc:

seriously, I doubt the XTi will have a big price drop, Christmas is about pushing the new crap out the door, not the old stuff.

Why not a used 30D or a 20D? Look on B&H, Adorama, buydig.com, and other trusted online places. They sell used cameras/leses too... Easy to find a good deal.

Pretty sure the XTi will drop a lot in price. Especially with the XSi and XS now.

Can you find something of equal optical quality for $100?

    Didn't think so.

It's a nice start up setup. I wouldn't mind having an XTi as a backup camera for those "oh shit" moments.

If the canon 50 1.8 is anything like the nikon 50 1.8, you're out of your mind.

Love mine so far on my 300D. Then again, I'm a cheapskate.

People are 50-50 on this lens. Some love it, some hate it. There is no middle ground. I just happen to hate it. Feels like a toy rattle.

The 50mm 1.8 MkI was actually a better lens.
