I am not too knowledgeable about working out muscle groups but what is the difference between bench and flies? I know the both work the pectoral muscle but is there benefit from doing one rather than the other? Should I do both flies and bench, like alternating weeks?

Bench is for thickness, flyes are for width. Both are important.

    I do both.

However I tend to stick with machine and cable flies. DB flies bother my shoulder.

    I can take a guess:

    1) Most people don't do DB flies correctly

    2) A lot of people experience shoulder irritation

bench press is a compound movement, while the flyes are isolation. bping will work out your triceps, while flyes wont. its fine to do both
